And the Blog was without text, and void; and emptiness was upon the face of the Blog.
And the Spirit of Todd Moved upon the body of the text boxes.
And Todd Typed, Let there Be WORDS: and there Were WORDS.
And Todd Saw the WORDS, that it Was good.
The first blog here at Polymathic Dromomania is brief, which for me is unusual. Brevity, Polonious said, is the soul of wit. Which normally would, I suppose, make me witless. But what did Polonius know? He was skewered slinking behind a tapestry.
Moving on, welcome to Polymathic Dromomania! [cue the Jurassic Park theme music, music go, curtain go, lights go full!]
There, the show has officially started!
There will now be a short intermission. There are no refreshments in the lobby, and someone backed up all of the toilets, so please, bear with us. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Welcome to Polymathic Dromomania
Welcome to Polymathic Dromomania. Odds are you're not here by accident, but if you are, stick around. New friends are always an adventure worth taking.
Now, a Polymathic Dromomaniac (as we're called around here) is not some exotic, math-loving dinosaur. A polymath is someone who believes in the humanistic ideal and tries to learn as much in as many fields of study as possible.
Dromomania is the condition of having a strong mental and physical desire to travel and experience new things.
So, Polymathic Dromomania is as good a way as any to describe my endless search for knowledge. This blog is a chance to learn and do something new, and maybe chronicle things along the way.
Expect updates when you see them.

Polymath, or Renaissance man, is better known as a jack of all trades and master of none. I had recently researched making a Renaissance Club at school to celebrate the many disciplines that makes a full man - the sciences as well as the arts, history, athletics and philosophy all in one club. An interesting choice for a name for this little corner of the web that you created Todd. I would say this is an apt descriptor for you past tense, even present tense but your future tense I believe will fail to meet the criteria of a true polymath since you will be rather specialized. Ergo, this site is for Todd, the friend that was into a dozen things all the time and could talk about politics, make it relevant to paleontology then switch topics to the Polynesian islands all in one breath. This is in contrast to the Todd that we will witness evolve through the next 4 years. What will that Todd be like? This blog may be a good avenue to witness this metamorphosis. And as it has been for the majority of our lives, and probably will always will be, I'm here brother.

Ah, just because I'll be nose deep in the the law doesn't mean I'll cease to be a Renaissance man. Some of the most noted polymaths studied the law.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, there is a set of legal reference books known as Am Jur Proof of Facts. It's basically a 40 volume set of books that are a collection of trivia answers; everything from your favorite color to the velocity of an unladen swallow, and how to use them for litigation. There is no such thing as too broad a knowledge base to practice law.
